It’s our 10th Anniversary this year and what a 10 years it has been.

Throughout all the years the one thing that gives us the most pleasure is the real difference we make to the quality of life of our clients.

Over the next few posts I am going to take a trip down memory lane….

When we started Courtney Bell (the name being an homage to our mothers), we had a mission to rid people of the nightmare of unwanted hair. After much investigation into laser and IPL systems for hair removal, we invested in the EpiLight, the best IPL system available which had proven longevity of results and would ensure our clients got the best hair removal treatment available. We had then, and still have now, a passion for helping people get rid of unwanted hair. We understood the negative effect that unwanted hair could have on a persons quality of life, but to some extent we under estimated the truly positive effect not having to deal with unwanted hair could have.

From clients who could barely face the day, had no self confidence, were withdrawn to smiling ,bubbly and confident people. This week we attended a Ladies Evening at the Black Horse in Fulmer a gorgeous olde world pub in the village of Fulmer.
Just passed Pinewood, not 15 minutes out of Uxbridge this little pub set in a gem of a village is a great place to visit for a quiet drink or ideal for a Sunday lunch. There were stands from local business including ourselves, beautiful designer bags,clothes and jewellery, have to say we couldn’t resist buying a few bits and pieces- well it was in aide of charity. The evening was a great success and lots of money raised for Great Ormond Street. We are hoping to do it again in January-we’ll keep you posted.

In short yes I would love to look 10 years younger but actually I would be more than happy to maintain what I’ve got now (which I realise means that in 10 years I will want to look 10 years younger).
I am of the opinion that if we can hold back the years and we have the technology to do it then why not, the only stipulation I have for myself, personally, is that it looks natural, I do not want to look like I’m in a constant wind tunnel or have that overly processed appearance.
I looked at a rather scary picture that I took of my face over 4 years ago, I took it to monitor some pigmentation on my nose. For anyone interested, I was testing the use of retinol on an annoying age spot that had suddenly appeared on the bridge of my nose and for me the retinol worked. I had only just started using Environ and Medik8 and I can honestly say that there were deep frown lines that are no longer there (I have frowned this I was in the pram, so lines were bound to happen, the melasma (age spot) has gone and generally my skin condition is far better now, than it was then. Which is all we can ask for really, reverse damage that has been done and see a continual improvement.
I have had a couple of N-Lites and Oxygen facials which all add to the mix of my improved skin, but I have to say good products are a must. By good, I do not mean horrendously expensive products that break the bank, especially in this day and age. Environ, Medik8 and Image are of excellent in terms of quality and are very reasonably priced.
Additionally, I have recently started to use micro needling which is increasing the amount of product absorbed into my skin and also creating some slight trauma, which in turn gets my body to repair itself. I am rolling everywhere, the backs of my hands which have been sorely neglected, my decolletee which had been damaged by the Moroccan sun when I was young and stupid, both are showing major signs of improvement. I would always recommend micro needling with a good quality product (there’s no point in improving the absorbtion of rubbish into your skin.

Until very recently I thought that a “balanced diet” should be enough to nourish our bodies and although I would take a good quality multi vit and omega oil supplements (mainly because I felt my diet was not enough). Well then I attended a very interesting course at the IIAA (International Institute of Anti Aging) and I have to say it opened my eyes ……
Question What is a balanced diet? How can we be sure the fruit and veg are full of the vital nutrients we require with today’s economy farmers are forced to over utilise their fields not allowing for them to rest (I had vague memories of geography at school on how farms and rotational farming allowing the soil to rest for a few years to re-nourish itself.
The transportation of fresh foods deplete the vitamins and mineral vastly.
Lesson- buy from farms that are close by and preferably ones that rotate stock but this is easier said than done (and apparently ORGANIC is no better in terms of rotation or distance) so the solution SUPPLEMENTS that are design to give OPTIMUM health not just the RDA (which is just enough to prevent disease NOT improve.
